by mangee

I have a windows vista dual boot laptop Sony VGN-CR121E. I decided to put linux on it and now i want to get rid of linux for good but i dont have the vista installation cd (it didnt come with my computer). All i want is for linux to be off my computer and vista still on it and only vista. Please its driving me crazzzzy!! Thanks a lot everyone :)

Hi,
if you have a partial instalation, does means you got two or more partition on your hard drive, to (re)install a system operation, you must need wich are the requirements to this, if you’re thinking to take out linux and return to windows system, it’s easier, if you got a original disk of windows it will to prepare the hole hard disk, if doesn’t work you need to get a tool to delete any partition of your hard drive, to get a full control over windows system, i recomment use “Hirent’s Boot CD” , it have tools to make some useful things with your hard drive as create or delete partition, remenber that a system operation must be in a primary partition…
good lock… if you need more help, remenber that over internet must be someone who could give it!!!

toshiba m200 tablet pc get Hi. I have a friend who gave me his laptop, really nice. But he took Windows XP off to put Linux on it. Well, it sucks and doesn’t work right. Is there a way I can put Windows back on it myself (pref. without paying for it)? If I take it somewhere, how much will it cost. I tried the Windows restore CD and it isn’t working. Any tips will help.

Any windows CD, you should be able to put in and then reboot computer. Hit a key when it asks you to press one and it will begin the setup process. Shops generally rape you for OS installs, at least the one I worked at did. $ 110 is way too steep for that service, but it’s what they get away with.

Seeing as you need the whole OS you’ll have to buy the CD. You can usually find a cheap xp CD on craigslist.org

As other people said, if the restore CD doesn’t work, you’ll need a full installation of Windows. Your laptop’s manufacturer MAY be able to send you an OS disc, probably for a price, otherwise you’ll have to buy a copy. When you install Windows it should show your current partitions and give options to delete and format them so Windows can be installed.

Nope, nobody has answered this correctly.

This is because Windows XP does not have support for ext3 file systems, which is what Linux uses.

You will need to boot with a Linux LiveCD, use GParted or some other file system utility and delete the partition tables before reinstalling Windows with your restore CD
