how can i get windows xp on my acer aspire one linux laptop?

hi, i have a acer aspire one, its currently on acer. how would i get it on windows xp without using a disk?

Assuming the laptop has the minimum specifications:

You could get a USB CD ROM drive and plug it into the laptop (via USB)…

You can do it, but its a little difficult, search in the linked forum.

The question has to be asked though, why would you want to run XP? The Linux on the acer is odd for someone who has only ever used windows before, but it has different attributes. OK you cant pretty it up with wallpaper or anything, but it loads so fast, My Linpus AA1 has a working desktop in 15 secs, and is connected to the net in 40 secs, XP can’t get anywhere near that speed.

toshiba tablet review get I’ve tried to install Win XP by using it’s bootable CD, but that doesn’t work. What else can be done to completely remove Linux from my Laptop, which is installed on the whole Hard drive.

Just blast the partition using an Fdisk utility and personally I also zap the boot sector then after rebooting, install WinXP in the cleaned out partition…..best Fdisk utility to use is the one included in most Linux CD’s…..that way you can blast the main as well as the swap partition and join them into one large partition

Format your hard drive and then try to install.

Chances are you still have LILO boot loader on there, correct?

If so, you need to low level format the drive.

I recommend an app called killdisk. The free version is all you need. 1 pass will wipe out everything on the drive. If you don’t have a floppy drive, use the bootable iso and burn it to CD.

After the killdisk process is finished you have a clean drive and can now install XP from scratch.

Don’t worry, this is familiar ground with me. Download SystemRescueCD (www.sysresccd.org) and then burn it to CD using UltraISO (link in sources). Run FDisk and reformat the partition. Insert your XP cd and run the installer. Good luck!

Why would you want to remove Linux? Windows XP SUCKS. You should get a Mac, but anything is better than Windows…
