Kirbz.:Chicago, one of my all time favourites. I saw them locally when they came here, and when I was in NY. It’s a spectacular show.
Bye Bye Birdie, I wouldn’t say really appeals to the older crowd, but it’s fairly good from what i’ve seen. Its about a girl who falls in love with a rock star.
Radio City Music Spectacular, is great if you love a lot of dancing. The rockettes are a once in a lifetime show to see. I saw the Christmas version when my friend auditioned for Julliard in NY.
and The Phantom of the Opera is a must-see. I personally love Andrew Lloyd Webbers works.
Kat <3:Okay, well discount tickets you can get from theatermania.com. Or actually in the city, you can go to the TKTS booth in Times Square that day, and they have many shows, at half price.. the shows that are normally available at the website tkts.com.
As for the shows here is the lowdown on each of the shows you listed, then I'll give you my top list. For ones that I'm unsure about, I'll leave out...
9 to 5: The musical = comedy, based on Dolly Parton music
Avenue Q = comedy, adults ONLY, they use puppets, kinda cool
Bye Bye Birdie = teen comedy, brand new (previews begin in sept.) revival, John Stamos is in it, it looks very good, limited performances so see it soon
Chicago = been around for a long time, can definetly get them half price, seen the movie, it's similar
Hair = supposed to be amazing, revival, a classic with oldies type music!
In the Heights - latin type music..great dancing
Little Mermaid - awful, dont waste your money please. it was dreadfully boring!
Mamma Mia! - comedy, great ABBA music!
Mary Poppins - comedy i loved it though, great sets, costume, music and overall performace!
Next to Normal - similar to music of RENT, very current music, great for your age group!
Radio City Music Spectacular: The Rockettes - the christmas show? thats the only one i've seen - not sure about this one?
Rock of Ages = 80's rocks anthems, not pop-type show tunes
Shrek the Musical = comedy, great performances by the main guys, if you enjoyed the comedy from the movie, you'll enjoy the play
So, as for my top list....
1. WICKED! - I am obsessed with this show, the music, the cast, the story. If you can get tickets, GO see it NOW!!
2. Billly Elliot
3. Mary Poppins/Lion King
